We were filled with excitement the moment Sony took the wraps off of its Dash personal internet viewer back at CES, but after learning that this was less of a tablet and more a sophisticated widget machine for in-home use, our joviality was understandably squashed. Today, Sony has given the doubters a reason to perk back up and pay attention, as the April-bound device will ship with the ability to stream Watch Instantly content from Netflix. As if that wasn’t enough, Demand Media will also be offering Dash-tailored portals to content from eHow, Golflink and Livestrong.com, and it’ll have no issues streaming “online music videos, television, or film content on-demand” to the 7-inch touchpanel. Still not convinced that this thing is worth $199? It’s just an external battery mod away from greatness, you know!

Yesterday Apple finally unveiled its tablet computer, the iPad. The device, looks like a large version of the iPod Touch will be available in April or May, and will cost $499. The iPad has a 9.7-inch LCD touch-screen display, and makes use of the same multitouch technology found on the iPhone, Apple’s Magic Mouse and its notebook trackpads. The iPad has aslo the same in-plane switching display technology that made its debute in the latest crop of iMacs.

It has an on-screen QWERTY keyboard and an accelerometer that can detect whether the device is in portrait or landscape mode. It has built-in Wi-Fi and a home button to go straight to the main screen of the OS. Just like on the iPhone, there is a volume rocker and a mute button.

The iPad is sporting a 1Ghz custom Apple chip. According to Apple, the iPad can get 10 hours of video, which is about four more than the iPod Touch and four more than the latest generation iPhone. Apple says it has a standby time of “a month”. There will be a 16, 32 and 64GB version, for $499, $599^and $699, respectivily. That’s only for the Wi-Fi version. Apple will also be selling a version of the iPad that includes both Wi-Fi and a 3G wireless modem built in. AT&T provides a special plan: $15 a month for 250MB, or $29,99 for unlimited. It also bumps up the baseline price to $629 (16GB), $729 (32GB), $829(64GB).

The HP Slate – have you ever seen a more iconic and groundbreaking device? Well the HP CTO Phil McKinney has been very friendly to share some of the history behind the development of the new announced tablet, which is set for a release this year.

Starting with the e-reader prototypes five years ago, he tells us, HP steadily built up an idea of the sort of “rich media experience” modern consumers are lusting after. It’s only now, however, in a “perfect storm” of innovation, that HP finds itself capable of pairing the right hardware with the mainstream-friendly price.

After Nintendo has been integrated in the lives in Japan, Nintendo now came up with the Wii Classic Controller Pro Stateside. They created it to integrate the Wii in the lives off all the Americans. It’s unique, it has it own set of slightly different buttons and ergonomics to thoroughly confure and delight hapless Wii owners. The controller will be launched in April, as a bundle with Monster Hunter Tri. Separately the controller comes in black and white for only $20, while bundled with the game, it will cost $60.

The White House isn’t the only part of the US government that came up with an iphone App. Also the U.S. Army also has an iPhone app, there is a link on Army.mil, the official homepage of the United States Army. The free app gives users access to the US Army’s homepage and also to videos, pictures and a lot of information about the Army ranks, and toys they use.
The main idea was to give people access to the official US Army sites, blogs, the ability to listen to Army Podcasts directly to your iPhone or iPod touch and learning the basic information about the Army.

What I think is more interesting of the app is the Fact Files area, it let you know what types of weapons, equipment and vehicles they use and utilize. But that’s not for everybody interesting.

I must say, it’s really a great app, and an example of how to make a quality iPhone app for a website.

Ion Audio are back with a two-way pocket camcorder. You can record both sides of a conversation. It has two lenses, two mics and only one body. It’s capable of doing picture-in-picture or split-screen recording, and can selectively switch between the audio streams depending on which side you want to hear at which time. The price is nog yet specified, but the Twin Video cam should be arriving somewhere before June. Video after the break
