It may seem like your only choice for a new HDTV these days are LCD or plasma flat panel displays. Not so. Shoppers looking for more screen for less moolah might want to take a look at Mitsubishi’s 73-inch Home Theater TV (WD-73737; can be found for less than $2,000). That’s $500 less than even some 60-inch flat panel displays.
The 73-inch rear projection set, which uses Texas Instruments Digital Light processing technology to create its 1080p video, won’t hang on the wall like a flat panel. But at less than 93 pounds (40kg) it fits comfortably on a stand or cabinet. And at 17.9 inches (45cm), it takes up far less space in the room than past generations of rear projection TVs.
Did we mention that the picture is BIG? Blu-ray movies, live sports and video games seem more in your face. For more intense experiences, you can play 3D PC games such as World of Warcraft on the set, too, with compatible 3D glasses such as NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Vision kit.
